Aimed at sensitizing people to Breast Cancer, the Kigali Car Free Day, was attended by President Paul Kagame and First Lady, who were joined by Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his close associate Senior Journalist Andrew Mwenda, on Sunday, October 16.

The Sunday’s event serves to continue Breast Cancer Awareness Month (The Pink Month) which aims to educate people about the disease, including early screening as well as signs and symptoms associated with it in Rwanda. Attended by thousands of Kigali residents, from jogging to cycling, skating and walking, the public sports take place twice a month. During the event, the Ministry of Health underscores the importance of early detection to stem rising breast cancer cases. Addressing the participants, as Rwanda joined the rest of the world to mark breast cancer awareness month, their Health Minister Dr Daniel Ngamije revealed that the Ministry is facing a challenge of delayed breast cancer care for patients, leading to lower chances of survival but also higher costs of treatment.
