Renowned Dancehall artist Beenie Gunter, born Crescent Baguma, made a triumphant return to Uganda on Friday after facing months of uncertainty and legal troubles in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The artist, who was warmly welcomed by his baby mama Nickie Berry and their son Joshua Baguma at Entebbe International Airport, had been arrested on Sunday, January 21, 2023, at a Dubai airport. The incident occurred as he attempted to board a plane to Uganda with Nickie Berry.
The arrest unfolded during a dispute between two Ugandan promoters in the UAE, where Beenie Gunter had traveled to perform in Abu Dhabi earlier that January.
Subsequently, the “Tubayo” singer was transported to Abu Dhabi and detained on charges of violent conduct and property vandalism. After spending six days in Abu Dhabi prison, he was granted bail on Friday, January 26, 2024, much to the joy of his fans.
Despite securing his release, Beenie Gunter faced a travel ban that prevented his immediate return to Uganda following the arrest.
Today, however, the artist quietly returned to Uganda, sparking speculation about his potential performance at Lydia Jazmine’s ‘First Born’ Concert scheduled at Hotel Africana later tonight.
