Last Friday’s “Old is Gold” Concert by Ronald Mayinja, held at Kampala Serena Hotel, showcased the celebrated artist’s distinctive voice and infectious rhythms, marking his return to the stage after years.

Despite ticket prices set at shs 100,000 for ordinary and shs 3000,000 for tables, Serena’s Victoria Hall was filled to capacity, proving that good music transcends economic challenges. Critics had doubted Mayinja’s ability to draw crowds in the current economic climate, coupled with his alignment with the ruling government NRM. However, the artist, who hadn’t held a concert in years, silenced naysayers by attracting an enthusiastic audience.

At 9 PM, Ronald Mayinja took the stage to thunderous applause from excited fans. In a departure from typical concerts with multiple curtain-raisers, Mayinja’s event featured neither an MC nor opening acts. The artist performed for two hours, delivering the best of his musical repertoire to the delight of his fans.

The concert sold out completely by 7:00 PM, with the venue at full capacity. Some fans were even turned away as the Africana music icon drew crowds beyond the venue’s limits, underscoring the immense love and support from his fans.

Several notable figures and dignitaries attended the concert to show their support for Ronald Mayinja. Some even graced the stage with performances, including Maureen Nantume, Jose Chameleone, Alien Skin, and Ssemakula, among others.
