Uganda’s beloved Afrigo Band is gearing up to commemorate an extraordinary milestone of 48 years in the music scene with a momentous event, the “Legends of Sound Concert.”

The much-anticipated concert is scheduled to take place at the picturesque Kampala Sheraton Hotel Gardens on Saturday, the 5th of August, promising an unforgettable night of musical excellence.

Renowned for their soulful melodies and infectious rhythms, Afrigo Band has left an indelible mark on Uganda’s entertainment industry since its establishment in 1975. Over the years, they have not only entertained generations of music enthusiasts but have also played a significant role in shaping the country’s cultural heritage.

The Legends of Sound Concert will be a celebration of Afrigo Band’s remarkable journey, with the band taking the audience on an enchanting musical voyage through nearly five decades of captivating performances. To make the evening even more special, the legendary Lingala artist from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Awilo Longomba, will be gracing the stage alongside Afrigo Band, promising a fusion of vibrant sounds and electrifying performances.

In anticipation of the grand celebration, early bird tickets are now available for purchase at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel, Club Obligatto, Talent Africa Offices, and Alliance Française. The early bird offer will end on the 25th of July, so fans are encouraged to secure their spots early. Ticket categories and prices are as follows:

Earlybird Prices (Valid until 25th July):

  • Bronze Tickets: UGX 50,000/=
  • Silver Tickets: UGX 120,000/=
  • Gold Table for 8: UGX 4,000,000/=

Regular Prices (After 25th July):

  • Bronze Tickets: UGX 75,000/=
  • Silver Tickets: UGX 150,000/=
  • Gold Table for 8: UGX 5,000,000/=

Moses Matovu, the band leader and one of Afrigo Band’s founding members, expressed his excitement about the upcoming concert, stating, “It’s an honor to celebrate 48 years of making music with Afrigo Band. The journey has been incredible, and we can’t wait to share all the magic with our fans, along with our friend Awilo.”

Joanita Kawalya, another cherished member of the band, described Afrigo Band as not just a musical group but a family, highlighting the unbreakable bond they share. She expressed that the concert would be a celebration of unity and talent, reflecting the group’s longstanding camaraderie.

Rachael Magoola, who joined Afrigo Band in 1989 and is currently a member of Parliament, shared her inspiring journey, remarking, “Afrigo Band opened doors for me as a young girl from the village. Today, I’ve traveled the world, thanks to this incredible band. It’s an honor to be part of this milestone celebration.”

Awilo Longomba, the celebrated Congolese artist, also expressed his excitement, hinting at an electrifying collaboration with Afrigo Band. “Can you imagine Afrigo playing Techno-Soukous, performing with me on my entire set? It’s a big challenge, but we’re excited to take it on. Uganda, get ready for an electrifying experience!”
