The Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, delivered a message of advice to artists, emphasizing the need to treat their craft as a professional job and maintain respect to achieve success in their respective fields. His remarks were made during an interview with BBS Terefayina at Rema Namakula’s ‘Melodies Of Love’ concert on February 23, 2024, held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Mr. Mayiga stressed the importance of artists portraying themselves professionally, considering the impact they have on society due to their visibility. He lauded Rema Namakula for consistently presenting herself in an appropriate manner.

“Artists need to understand that singing is a job just like being a Lawyer or a Farmer. They need to embrace and treat their craft as a profession. You have to give it (the job) time, think about it, and sacrifice a lot if you want your job to turn out successful,” stated Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

Mayiga also addressed the topic of artists’ fashion choices, asserting that, as long as they maintain good morals, fashion should not be a significant determinant of success. He highlighted that Rema’s moral character is commendable, and the focus should be on an individual’s values rather than their attire.

“Fashion depends on where you are and your surroundings. Rema has always portrayed good morals and we like her. Someone’s morals are the most important. Fashion does not determine success at your job but rather how professional you are,” added Mayiga.

In championing professionalism within the arts, Buganda Kingdom’s Prime Minister encourages artists to prioritize their craft, uphold respect, and consider the broader impact they have on society.
