While driving through the streets of the Netherlands on Friday evening, Bobi Wine, accompanied by his party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, found himself overwhelmed with emotion as he broke into a rendition of Jose Chameleone’s popular song, “Basiima Ogenze,” a tribute to the unsung heroes of the world.

Released approximately two decades ago, the song, whose title translates to “people only appreciate your good actions after you have passed,” has become a resonating phrase in the country over the years.

During the car ride, Bobi Wine sang along to the entire song, pausing intermittently to reflect on its profound message. He later shared a video of the moment on social media, expressing feelings of being underappreciated.

“The ride from Brussels to Amsterdam this afternoon got me thinking things about life, as we jammed to Jose Chameleon’s #BasiimaOgenze,” he posted.

“The best thing a man should do is try to do good and improve the lives of others without expecting anything in return (because it will not come in your lifetime).

“The beauty is that, when they finally understand you, even when you’re long gone, it will make you live on.”

In recent weeks, Bobi Wine has faced internal challenges within his political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), with tensions escalating as he severed ties with his vice president, Hon Mathias Mpuuga. Bobi Wine accused Mpuuga of corruption allegations, while Mpuuga and some party leaders claimed he was being scapegoated for his stance against certain agendas.

Amidst this turmoil, Bobi Wine continues to navigate the political landscape, staying true to his convictions while grappling with the complexities of leadership and public perception.
