According to Eddy Kenzo, the president for Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), Azawi’s calls for musicians to protest corruption come from inexperience.

He believes that as people get older, they speak less and learn from their experiences. Kenzo feels that he and others have been in the industry longer and have seen more than Azawi.

“As people age, they tend to speak less, influenced by their experiences. Where Azawi is now, we’ve been before. We know a lot she hasn’t yet seen, given our time in the industry. Do I seem like someone who supports corruption?” Kenzo said during a media interview.

The newly wed also believes that Azawi might have an ulterior motive, like some artists who have used similar campaigns to enter politics or gain popularity.

He refuses to support violent protests, citing his understanding of Uganda’s situation and suggests that Azawi be motivated to join protests on her own, without needing his support.

Adding to that, the Sitya Loss singer explained that he has already talked about bad governance in his song titled “system volongoto” and advised whoever wants feel his presence in the protests to share his song.
