UMA Electoral Committee Announces vetted candidates, Launches Presidential Debate for General Elections

UMA – Uganda Musicians Association’s Electoral Committee has today announced candidates for various positons ahead of their 2022 General  elections.

The electoral body recently held the nomination process and aspirants brought back their forms on 11th and 12th April at the National Theatre in the capital, Kampala for vetting.

“In the vetting, we were looking to ensure nominees have complied with all membership obligations and not undergoing any disciplinary action. We were also looking into integrity and demonstrated qualities of good leadership”. Chairman UMA Policy Board – Mesach Semakula.

According to Mr. Geoffrey Ekongot, the Chairman Uganda Musicians’ Association Electoral Committee, the UMA Policy board offered guidance on the vetting process and ensured that the candidates are in good standing with the association. “There are three candidates for the position of president and 12 candidates in total for the executive lot. The three candidates for president are Cinderella Sanyu (Cindy), Ssemanda Manisul (King Saha) and Mutebi Ramathan (Lord Bitem)”. he said.

Ekongot also mentioned that some aspirants backed out of the race at personal will. Among those included Allan Hendrik and Fred Ssebatta who had stood for Vice President and Kadongo Kamu representative respectively. Another aspirant for General Secretary, Sewa Sewa was vetted out by the committee over failure of full provision of requirements. UMA Electoral Committee also released the members register to enable the voter verification process to commence. The register and final list of nominated candidates is available on the UMA website via www.umaonline.org .

In the press conference, it was revealed that the next activity shall be the UMA Presidential debate which has been scheduled to take place on 30th April live on NBS Television and Sanyuka TV. According to Ekongot, the debate is an opportunity for the candidates to share
their vision.
