Koffi Olomide excites fans in Kigali

As earlier promised, the Congolese artiste did not disappoint his Kigali fans who had come in thousands last night for his show at the Kigali Arena.

At exactly 9: 30pm, Koffi’s band showed up on stage by playing some danceable melodies and choreographies, sending the revellers, who were disappointed by the sound system, into a frenzy. 

Upon his arrival on stage at 10:00 pm, Koffi appeared on stage and made up for the long awaited time by performing hits such as ‘Papa Mobimba’ that made him a household name in Africa and Europe.

During his performance, the 65-year-old Congolese Thumba maestro took a break to express how he loves, and appreciates Rwanda’s development.

“It is a huge pleasure to be back in Rwanda, a country that makes me feel at home. By looking at the clean city, everyone could see the development in this country that many can learn from,” he said during the performance.

He added that he loves the president of Rwanda and appreciates how both his home country, DR Congo, and Rwanda have built strong ties.

“Ndabakunda Cyane,” he said, proving to his fans that he knows Kinyarwanda.

The iconic performer kept on delivering his best when he performed his famous songs like ‘Selfie’ (‘ekotite’), ‘Papa Ngwasuma’, ‘Waah’ featuring Diamond Platnumz and ‘Effrakatta’, that saw the entire audience sing and dance along.

The long awaited show also featured local artistes including King James,  that many were excited to see back on stage, together with Yvan Buravan and Chris Hat.

Through songs like ‘Ganyobwe’, ‘Yantumye,’ ‘Poupette’ among many others, King James proved to his fans that he is still has talent, by delivering a light performance after years off-stage.

  Iness Rudasingwa, a reveller at the show, said that Koffi is one of a few artistes that attracts both the young and old generation.

She however added that the sound system companies should improve or find possible ways of addressing sound issues before performances kicks off to avoid spoiling mood and mismanagement.

“This was really a good show. I am sure everyone who loves Rhumba and Congolese music had a blast,” she said.

Koffi’s concert attracted different people including Eduard Bamporiki, Minister of state in the Ministry of Youth and Culture, and Masamba Intore, a top traditional singer among many others.

 The show took place after a social media protest by a section of women activists calling for the cancellation of the show on grounds that the singer has a history of abusing women.
