One of the biggest names in Uganda`s music business and now Grammy nominated, Edrisa Musuuza also known as Eddy Kenzo has on Tuesday released an official statement via his Facebook page concerning his court battle with renown music promoter Moses Lubulwa who is commonly known as Luba events.

Around 9th November 2022, Luba took Kenzo to the courts of law over his recently held festival concert and road to Eddy Kenzo festival tours.

Luba was initially the main promoter of the shows before Covid-19 which led to the stoppage of entertainment in Uganda.

During various media interviews of Kenzo ahead of the festival, he revealed that Luba got a stimulus fund from the government over the cancellation of the events but never gave him any coin yet they had a partnership deal. And that it was the reason why he had to organize the festival on his own when the economy opened up.

It is said Lubulwa incurred losses amounting to 800M when he organized the Eddy Kenzo festival in 2020 but this did not happen due to Covid 19.

Luba then took Kenzo to court that saw the court halting all Eddy Kenzo bookings in Uganda until all these matters are resolved.

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Luba Events/Lubuulwa Moses filed a miscellaneous Application(1572 of 2022) seeking a temporary injunction against Eddy Kenzo.

He wanted the court to ban Eddy Kenzo from performing in any place in Uganda until he performs for him.

Eddy Kenzo was represented by Counsel Kabega Musa and Counsel Faisal Balikurungi of Kabega, Bogezi, and Bukenya Advocates and they raised the following objections;

– [ ] There was no resolution authorizing Lubuurwa Moses to institute the suit and this application on behalf of the company.

– [ ] The prayers sought in the application are vague and untenable.

– [ ] The application is overtaken by events all shows having taken place.

– [ ] It is against public policy and would amount to an unreasonable restraint of trade.

The court upheld all the above objections and dismissed the application with Costs.

Court vacated the earlier interim order issued on 10th November 2022

Eddy Kenzo is therefore free to perform in any part of Uganda as cleared by the court.

To God be the Glory “
