On Wednesday last week, Swangz Avenue released artwork of Azawi’s first concert slated to happen on the 22nd of July at Lugogo grounds.
The concert dubbed ‘Azawi African Music Concert’ brought about controversy with a section of online fans suggesting that it would have been morally right for Swangz Avenue to first organize concerts for artistes Winnie Nwagi and Vinka before thinking about the budding Azawi given the fact that the pair have been at the label for over 7 years and 5 years respectively with a rollercoaster of hit songs to both their names!
The above reasoning has generated all forms of criticism on social media with many saying it is time for Winnie Nwagi and Vinka to rethink their allegiance to the music label because its giving its priority focus on Azawi. It should be noted that Azawi, joined Swangz Avenue in the late evening days of 2019, today she boasts of close to three years under the label and this concert will be her maiden concert in this period she has been doing music at a professional level.
In all fairness, it should also be noted that Azawi has been the most fast rising amongst all the talents Swangz has signed over the years. In just two years, the songstress released 2 mega successful projects, an EP “Quinamino” and an Album “African Music“.
These projects pushed Azawi way too high than the other label signees ever did in their first years of their careers. Its with this background that the label’s managers chose to front their newbie over their big old dogs. They probably want to milk from this her shining moment that has consistently churned out hit after hit for 2 good years.
While at it, we would love to believe that Winnie Nwagi and Vinka are okay with the move given the fact that the pair hasn’t come out to speak out on the matter. We can however authoritatively confirm that the pair hasn’t posted about their collegue’s concert on their social platforms yet one would think that as family from the same label, they would show early support to their fellow songstress!
Amidst everything though, it should be noted that early this year shortly after the full re-opening of the entertainment industry, their was a popular talk sparked by one of the managers from the Industrial area based music label claiming that each of these artists, Winnie Nwagi, Vinka and Azawi would have a solo concert this year and they would later climax it all with a joint mega concert.
If this is something to believe, the big question that remains is, When will the remaining 2 artistes have their concerts given the highly booked dates all through the year? Above it all, the fans of Winnie Nwagi and Vinka should remain hopeful. Lets watch the space!
