Janzi Awards nominees were officially announced in November and the ceremony took place on the 11th and 12th December 2021 and several artistes walked home with awards.
The Janzi Awards are envisioned as an inclusive experience where outstanding achievements, innovations, and diversity in Uganda’s Cultural, Creative, and Performing Arts forms are recognized and celebrated. Singer Namukwaya Hajarah AKA Spice Diana has now come out to question the intentions of the Janzi Awards .
Spice Diana who was one of the nominees however wasn’t satisfied with the criteria used to pick the winners. The Body singer first argued that Ugandan artists have been used for long though they keep silent. She wondered why the government organized a big ceremony where no one wore a mask. The singer further wondered why the government can’t give artistes a chance to go back to work.
The big question however is, would Spice Diana say the same if she had won the Award in the category she got nominated in? A section of fans have come out to rubbish Diana’s rant saying its baseless and out of selfishness because she didn’t win the award in her category plus she was not invited as a performer and missed out on that money something that drove her narrative about the awards.
